Shrine dedicated to the worship of the Black Madonna, since the High Middle Ages, Rocamadour is the second most visited site in France after the Mont Saint Michel. This means that lovers of solitude will have to go elsewhere, especially during the summer.History
That said, the village worth the trip. Perched on a gazebo overlooking the
Canyon Alzou, it dominates the surrounding area.
According to the legend, Roland of Roncesvalles during the famous
battle which was fatal to him, threw his sword, the famous Durandal, and shouted that where the sword would fall,
Rocamadour will be. It is always visible, planted in the rock at the entrance of the sanctuary
surmounting the tomb of Saint Amadour.
